US President, Barrack Obama may have not had time to visit Arusha during his recent tour of Tanzania but this has not prevented tourists from the United States of America to top the bill when it comes to the number of visitors who tour both the Ngorongoro Crater and its corresponding Conservation Area Authority, annually.

Principal Tourism Officer, at NCAA, Mr Asantael Melita said American Tourists have been leading the pack of foreign visitors into the crater for three consecutive years with their numbers averaging at 80,000. Visitors from more than 60 countries tour the Ngorongoro Crater annually and together they pool in 600,000 tourists.

The United Kingdom comes second by sending in around 50,000 tourists into Ngorongoro annually and Germany takes the third position with nearly 40,000 visitors, slightly ahead of France which sends 34,000 people into the caldera.

At least 16,000 tourists from Australia also visit the crater annually while the Scandinavian countries pools in 15,000 tourists into the crater ahead of Canada with 13,500, Spain with 12,000 and Italy which brings in 11,000 visitors.

The Public Relations Manager at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority Mr Adam Akyoo said the revenue at NCAA has been going up with each passing year with the latest figures indicating that over 56 billion/- was earned in 2012 up from 52 billiob/- earned from the previous year 2011.

The NCAA with its flagship feature the wildlife filled Ngorongoro crater, the Laetoli archaeological site, mysteriously moving hill of sand and the lush-green Embakai Crater is the country’s leading tourist destination with its annual 600,000 visitors.

Serengeti National Park which is the second largest in the country after Ruaha, is also the second most popular site attracting 350,000 tourists annually.
